Body of Writing adds an additional dimension to the traditional mind-body-spirit practice of yoga: story.
In this workshop we begin with the premise that we write from the body — that our bodies hold our stories. Using a combination of inspirational writing exercises and prompts, yoga postures, meditation, and visualization techniques, we deepen creativity and access the stories we carry.
We begin with a warmup of gentle stretches and attention to breath. In this state of relaxation and body awareness, we learn how to sense blocks within the body, then transition from relaxing to writing, transforming blocks into self-expression.
All sessions end with 10–20 minutes of guided deep relaxation. All levels. Previous experience with creative writing or yoga is not necessary.
Especially recommended for blocked writers.
Songwriting is a wonderful way to express yourself or tell a story. You don't need to be a musician to be a songwriter!
Songwriting is a powerful creative practice for individuals, and an engaging group activity. In one-on-one sessions, songwriting can be used to explore the past, or celebrate the present. The process of writing lyrics can be a profound journey into the self, almost like therapy, or a light-hearted adventure into a fictional "What If?"
For schools and classrooms, writing songs serves as a cross-curricular connector that appeals to all students. Song structure is similar to the structure we find in literature and essay writing, as well as in writing for television and film.
All levels. Previous musical experience is not necessary. Individual and group sessions available.
